****Update: Read an update on the dock repair grant from the state here
The City of Manitowoc is delaying road repairs to East and West Crescent Drive, while diverting those funds to repair the SS Badger dock. On April 14 and 15, Winter Storm Evelyn raged through Manitowoc causing serious damage to the dock approach and the damaged 30-ton weight arm on the dock ramp for the Lake Michigan Carferry.
The Manitowoc Common Council has approved the diversion of road repair money from the Crescent Drive project in the amount of 550-thousand dollars. Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels said these funds will be “more than enough to cover the cost of repairs”. Mayor Nickels added the City is applying for emergency Harbor Assistance Program funds which is an 80/20 split (80% state 20% city) to help reimburse the City. The season’s first voyage for the SS Badger is May 11th, repairs to the storm damage of Manitowoc’s SS Badger dock has already begun.
The Common Council approved delaying the Crescent Drive project until 2019.
