Work crews are continuing their improvements in the River Point District in Manitowoc.
The extension of the downtown’s most prominent feature is the River North Apartments, but as Mayor Justin Nickles explains, a lot of infrastructure work is being done, specifically right off the 10th Street bridge and River Point Drive, which is the new road that goes in off of Maritime Drive.
Nickels noted that city leaders, “really wanted to focus and make sure a lot of this area was also available for public use.”
As for what exactly is being done, Nickels said a lot of work is being done including “boat docking…a trail walk through there, they are going to grade that area to make a grassy area. Our hope is to get some type of covering, a place for people to have a picnic over there in the future, but also a kayak launch.”
And that launch is being installed on the same dock where the S.S. Badger used to dock.
Nickels said these improvements will help make the former C.N. Peninsula an enjoyable place for everyone to use, not only those living in the River North Apartments.
