A 56- year- old Manitowoc man is in custody following a crash near Oshkosh. The state patrol says they attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Lee Konop (kon-ip) for a speed violation on I-41 near State Highway 44 just before two this afternoon (Tuesday) when he began to flee. Konop exited State Highway 44 and headed towards the Oshkosh airport. Konop then entered airport property by ramming through a gate driving around a few of the access roads before entering the runway area. His vehicle became disabled between two of the runways in the middle of the airport and Konop was taken into custody without incident. Airport personnel were notified and were told to divert any aircraft that may have been affected. Konop was taken to a local hospital for treatment of “non life threatening” injuries. Charges are pending upon completion of an investigation by law enforcement. Assisting the state patrol were personnel from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department along with Oskosh Police and Fire.
