Wisconsin men’s basketball assistant Lamont Paris is leaving to become the new head coach at Tennessee-Chattanooga. Paris spent seven years in Madison, as former coach Bo Ryan hired him in 2010 from Akron where he spent six years as an assistant. After Greg Gard replaced Ryan, he named the 43-year-old Paris the Badgers’ associate head coach last spring. Gard says it will be “bittersweet” to see a great friend leave — but he says Paris has “more than paid his dues and climbed the professional ladder the right way.” Paris was a finalist for the Chattanooga job two years ago, but he lost out to Matt McCall — who left recently to become the new coach at Massachusetts.
