State Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says he will not allow a rebuilding of the east/west Interstate 94 in Milwaukee, until construction delays end on the north/south 94 from Milwaukee to the Illinois line. Milwaukee area business leaders have asked the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee to keep the east/west revamping on track between Milwaukee’s Marquette and zoo interchanges. But Vos — who’s from Racine County where the north/south holdups are occurring — says he refuses to “move forward” on the east/west project, saying the state cannot afford to ignore a major part of its Interstate system. The issue was brought up Wednesday during a state finance committee hearing in West Allis on the next state budget. The delays come amid a one-billion dollar shortfall in state highway revenues.
