The jobless rates in both Manitowoc and Manitowoc County decreased significantly in March. According to preliminary numbers released yesterday by the State Department of Workforce Development, the city’s unemployment rate is four-point-one percent down from five and a half percent from February and the same number was recorded in March of last year. The county’s jobless rate for March is an even four percent—a one-point-two percent decline from February’s rate of five-point-two percent and March 2016’s number of five-point-one percent. The release of March’s local rates follows last week’s release of business  labor statistics estimates showing the state’s preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of three-point-four percent—the lowest since April of 2000.
