Bail was set at $500 recognizance bond this afternoon (yesterday) for a 23- year- old Manitowoc man charged with two counts of theft from a motor vehicle. Leif E. Hagen was arrested early this (yesterday) morning for entering unlocked vehicles on the city’s northeast side. Police were notified shortly after 3 am that a male subject was seen trying to open car doors and quickly found a man matching the description they were given. Once questioned Hagen admitted entering five unlocked vehicles in the 1300 block of Oriole Drive and the 1700 block of Lilac Drive. Police also discovered that Hagen had been jailed on multiple counts of theft and was on probation from a previous theft conviction.  He remains in the county jail on a probation hold and his initial appearance is scheduled for May 15th at 1:30. Meanwhile police encourage citizens to lock their vehicles—garages and homes and to contact them if they observe suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
