One of the most decorated athletes in Manitowoc Lincoln High School history has passed away. Jim Behnke died Friday at the age of 58 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center. A 1977 graduate, Behnke played basketball for the ships and collegiately at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. He returned home after graduating in 1982 and was employed by Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry for 35 years. Behnke also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shipbuilders Credit Union, President of the American Legion Bowling Association, and has served as a PGA volunteer chairman. Jim continued to showcase his athletic prowess as a player and manager of local softball teams for 25 ears, was a local member of local golf Leagues and enjoyed spending time with kids, coaching and teaching basketball and baseball teams, earning him induction into the Manitowoc Count Sports Hall of Fame. Jim is survived by his wife Kathleen, two sons, Micheal and Eric, his mother Carol Behnke of Ohio and many friends. Funeral services for Jim will be held Wednesday evening at 7 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo with visitation beginning at 3 PM at the church.
