A Stoughton man has pleaded not guilty to nine criminal charges in a drug related freeway crash that killed two people on a Madison freeway. Twenty-five-year-old Brandon Ballweg is due back in Dane County Circuit Court July seventh for a final pretrial hearing. Prosecutors say Ballweg was driving up to 92 miles an hour in a 45 zone with cocaine in his system, when he collided with an oncoming car on February 12th — killing Kirk U’Ren and Jennifer Steiner of Cottage Grove who were heading to a Wisconsin Badger men’s basketball game. Officials say Ballweg claimed to speed up to avoid another vehicle that wanted to race him. His charges include reckless homicide, reckless endangerment, and homicide and injury influenced by a controlled substance.
