Police from Green Bay will investigate an incident at a bar in Appleton where a police lieutenant from that city shot and killed a suspect. Officials say Jay Steinke was among officers just outside Jack’s Apple Pub when a man started shooting inside around 1:40 Sunday morning — and after a crowd ran out, Chief Todd Thomas said Steinke went in, saw a male with a gun, shot him, and then sought cover. When other officers went in, they found the suspect and took him to a hospital where he later died. Two other men were sent to a hospital after the incident, one with a gunshot wound to an arm and the other with a shoulder injury who was not shot. Thomas did not release other information — including the victim’s name — saying he did not want to jeopardize the investigation.
