Bullet fragment evidence was shipped out Monday from the murder of Teresa Halbach. The tests conducted at a lab in Illnois for foresnic re-examiniation of evidence came after a request from the State Department of Justice after a stipulation with the attorneys of Steven Avery who along with his nephew Brendan Dassey were convicted for the October 31st 2005 murder of Halbach at the Avery Family Auto salvage yard near Mishicot. The items were returned yesterday (Tuesday) however the order doesn’t specify what they (Avery’s attorneys) were looking for and the test results are not on file. Avery—who’s serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole—is appealing his conviction. Attorney Kathleen Zellner filed that appeal on Avery’s behalf last August at the Manitowoc County Courthouse. Last summer a federal judge in Milwaukee tossed out Dassey’s March 2016 confession and his conviction but a state appeal has sent the case to a federal appeals court in Chicago who has yet to rule in the case. No future court dates are scheduled in either matter.
