Local unemployment rates continue to decline. Numbers released this afternoon (yesterday) by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development show three-point-six percent of Manitowoc’s workforce jobless. That’s a-half-a-percent decrease from four-point-one in March and significantly less than the five percent rate from April of last year. Manitowoc County’s jobless rate is at three-point-two percent—down from four percent in March and April 2016’s rate of four-point-four percent. Preliminary April 2017 rates decreased in all the state’s 32 largest municipalities and 72 counties. These numbers are on the heels of last week’s business of labor statistics monthly estimates showing a preliminary seasonally adjusted state unemployment rate of three-point-two percent—dropping to its lowest rate since February of 2000.
