Janesville Police are reassuring residents of their safety, especially those living close to where a Chicago area man was killed. The city of 65-thousand had its first homicide in more than three years after 28-year-old Eddie Lee Jones of Markham, Illinois was shot early Sunday in a Janesville neighborhood. He later died at a hospital, and his identity was made public late Monday after an autopsy confirmed that Jones died from the crime. Thirty-two-year-old Barquis Odom was booked into the Rock County Jail for first degree intentional homicide and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Police say the two men argued before Odom took his gun out and shot Jones just before he ran off — and several witnesses identified Odom, who was in a vehicle that was stopped about 21 hours after the murder.
