On May 31st, 2017, at approximately 01:42am, members of the Manitowoc Police and Fire Departments were sent to the area of S. 29th St. and Meadow Lane for a report of a single vehicle accident.
It was determined a silver Hyundai Elantra, occupied only by the driver, a 33 year old Manitowoc man, had left the westbound lane of Meadow Lane, just west of S. 29th St., at what appeared to be a high rate of speed, and struck a large tree in the grassy terrace of a residential yard.
The driver had been trapped inside the severely damaged vehicle and had to be extracted by Manitowoc Firefighters.
The driver suffered life threatening injuries and was ultimately airlifted to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, Wisconsin.
Manitowoc Police briefly closed the 2900 block of Meadow Lane in order to take photographs and gather evidence at the scene.
The contributing factors to the accident are still under investigation.
The Manitowoc Police Department is requesting anyone who may have witnessed this accident to call 920-686-6551 and provide details of their observations.
