A 33 year old Manitowoc man suffered life-threatening injuries early this morning when his car left a city street and struck a tree. Manitowoc Police Captain Craig Jansen said the collision occurred just before 1:45 am on Meadow Lane near south 29th Street. Officers said the driver and lone occupant of the smaller vehicle was traveling west at what appeared to be a high rate of speed, when he left the street, and collided with the large tree in the grassy terrace. The unidentified man’s car was severely damaged and the victim had to be extracted from the wreckage by Manitowoc firefighters. The driver had to be airlifted to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. Police briefly closed the street in the 2900 block of Meadow Lane to gather evidence at the scene. Authorities say contributing factors leading up to this morning’s crash are still under investigation.
