An explosion and fire have destroyed a plant in south central Wisconsin that turns corn into ethanol. It happened about eleven Wednesday night at Didion Milling in Cambria, about 20 miles east of Portage in Columbia County. Media reports say there were multiple injuries from burns, but it was not immediately known how many people were working in the plant at the time. Village President Glen Williams says there was a power outage after an initial blast, and a second and smaller explosion happened about 20 minutes later — and as of 4:30 a-m, the fire has been contained as Williams called the facility a “three or four story building that doesn’t exist anymore.” The village was not evacuated, as sheriff’s officials referred affected residents to a shelter at a highway shop.
