An occupant of a 16 unit apartment complex in Manitowoc was rescued from her living quarters late yesterday afternoon after a fire was reported. Fire Chief Todd Blaser says the alarm for a structure fire at 314 Riverview Drive came in just before 4:00. When Manitowoc Fire Rescue arrived, they observed flames had broken through a second story apartment window and heavy smoke was showing. The tenant, who was attempting to find her pet in the blaze, was brought to safety by firefighters, treated on the scene, and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. There is substantial fire damage to the room of origin and roof of the apartment complex, with smoke and water damage listed to the rest of the occupancy. A dollar amount of the damage is not ye available, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation with assistance from the Manitowoc Police Department. Manitowoc Fire personnel received mutual aid at the scene & in a backup capacity from 13 other local and area agencies.
The Red Cross is assisting with temporary housing for those affected by yesterday’s fire, and the Salvation Army provided valuable support and rehabilitation for working crews.
