The City of Manitowoc has been awarded a $500,000 grant under the Idle Sites Redevelopment Grant Program, which is administered by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC). The city received the grant for the redevelopment of the former Mirro Aluminum property. On top of creating jobs, the site renovation project is expected to bring the surrounding property values up. The WEDC grant will help to fund the first phase of the project, razing the two blighted and hazardous buildings and grading the site.
Just a reminder to anyone that wants a piece of Manitowoc history, the first 100 people to attend the Miro Demolition Ceremony will receive a brick from the building. The ceremony will begin at 3:00 this afternoon, with demolition to begin on Monday.
