A scary site at the U.S. Open AT Erin Hills yesterday. A PenFed Credit Union Blimp fell from the sky after it deflated and burst into flames. The accident happened at around 11:15 AM, and the aircraft landed about a mile away from the golf course, near highways 83 and 167. The pilot, Trevor Thompson was airlifted to Froedtert (FRO-dirt) Hospital with serious injuries, including burns. Thompson was attempting to land the blimp because of high winds, when the panels ripped off. He then turned the engines off, but residual fuel caused the fiery explosion upon impact with the ground. Thompson has experience with forced landings, having done one in 2015 and 2016.
