A Green Bay native was among the sailors injured in a naval collision over the weekend. On Saturday, the USS Fitzgerald collided with a Philippine-flagged merchant vessel off the coast of Japan. The collision injured at least 3 sailors on board the Fitzgerald, including Green Bay native Commander Bryce Benson, and several sailors went missing. Benson was taken to the U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka, while the others were treated aboard the ship, according to a statement by the Navy. Navy officials are developing a plan for repairs and inspection of the damaged areas once the ship makes it way back to Yokosuka.
