The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction unveiled a new program entitled “The Districts of Innovation” yesterday. The program seeks to enhance student progress toward college and career readiness, and came about because of recommendations by State Superintendent Tony Evers’ Innovation Work Group. The program allows any Wisconsin school district to apply to be exempt from many state laws, effectively giving them an opportunity to implement innovative practices and reduce barriers to student learning. Evers believes the effort will bring schools and the community together.
