Kerstin (KER-sten) Westcott, a longtime teacher at Washington Middle School in Green Bay, has resigned, stating that she feared for her safety. During a Green Bay Area Public School District Board of Education meeting on June 5th Westcott announced her resignation, and outlined many problems at the school. She told the board that she feared not only for her safety, but the safety of her colleagues and her students every day. She went on to explain that students and staff alike are physically, verbally, mentally, emotionally and sexually abused every day at the school. She cited an incident where a teacher was sent to the hospital after attempting to break up a fight between students. According to Westcott, a student even threatened to shoot up the school just a week prior to her testimony. On Tuesday the school district released a statement saying that they are aware of the problems and are searching for a solution.
