Knebel Brewers’ Lone Representative In All Star Game

Reliever Corey Knebel will be the Milwaukee Brewers’ lone representative at the Major League All Star Game one week from tomorrow (Monday) night in Miami. The 25-year-old right hander replaced the struggling Neftali Feliz as the Brewers’ closer in the middle of May — and he leads National League relievers with 68 strikeouts while breaking Bruce Sutter’s 40-year-old Major League record with at least one strikeout in 40 straight games during the same season. Manager Craig Counsell, who announced Milwaukee’s mandatory All Star selection to his squad at a team meeting, says Knebel was “fortunate” to have overcome struggles in the wake of a strained oblique muscle at the start of last season. The Brewers acquired Knebel in a trade with Texas in January of 2015 that sent starter Yovani Gallardo to the Rangers. It was a great Sunday for Knebel, who also learned that a baby he and his wife Danielle will have in November will be a girl.
