If you have been in the Downtown area of Manitowoc recently, you may have noticed some new markings on the roadways. The markings have a bicyclist with some arrows over its head, and these mark sharrows. Sharrows encourage cyclists to use the roadway, because they are not allowed on the sidewalk. State statues dictate that if a motorist is going to pass a cyclist in the same lane, they must give three feet of clearance. On the other side of the token, Bikers must obey all traffic laws, just like motor vehicles. Julie Reimer of the Manitowoc County Health Department along with Michelle Bacchus of the Wisconsin Bike Federation hosted an informational meeting on Monday.
