State Representative Melissa Sargent of Madison recently proposed a bill, which would legalize marijuana for medicinal and recreational purposes. The bill comes as several other states are attempting to pass a similar bill, and Rep. Sargent wants the bill passed to add a new stream of revenue for the state. Colorado, for example, legalized pot back in 2012, and last year reeled in nearly $200 million in tax revenue from pot sales in 2016. Rep. Sargent has attempted to pass similar bills in the past, and none received any support from republicans. She said she hopes this year she can “get past that pesky ‘D’” at the backside of her name.
