Madison golfer Steve Stricker ties for fifth at the P-G-A’s John Deere Classic, after shooting his best round of the tournament on Sunday. Stricker shot a minus seven 64 in Silvis, Illinois to finish 15 below par for the tournament at 269. That was three strokes behind the winner, Bryson DeChambeau — and the victory earned DeChambeau a trip to England for the British Open that starts on Thursday at Royal Birkdale. Stricker had already earned a spot in the year’s third major, after placing fourth in Scotland last year. Meanwhile, Jerry Kelly of Madison tied for 50th at the Senior Players’ Championship in Baltimore, shooting a minus one 287 to go 17 strokes behind winner Scott McCarron.
