The Milwaukee Brewers are now 1-4 at Pittsburgh this year, after losing to the Pirates 4-3 on Tuesday night. Travis Shaw hit a three run homer to right that landed in the Allegheny River — and he and manager Craig Counsell were both ejected in the eighth inning after a called third strike on a pitch that Shaw insisted was outside. Shaw went three for four on the night, as the Brewers outhit Pittsburgh 13-6. The Pirates scored all four of their runs in the sixth inning with homers from Josh Harrison and Francisco Cervelli, and a single from David Freese drove in the game winning run. Ivan Nova is now 10-6 with the win — Oliver Drake took the loss in relief — Milwaukee now has a three game losing streak for the first time since June 13th — and the Crew’s division lead continues to evaporate to just two and a half games on second place Chicago. Brewers’ catcher Stephen Vogt will be out for at least one month, after he sprained the M-C-L ligament in his left knee in a collision at the plate Monday night at Pittsburgh.
