A 14-year-old boy has drowned in Lake Michigan. Milwaukee area rescuers were called about six Tuesday evening to the Atwater Park beach in Shorewood. Officials say the teen was swimming with friends, and he jumped off a break wall to enter the water and never resurfaced. Divers from the Milwaukee Fire Department found the boy about 40 minutes later — efforts to save him failed — the victim’s name was not immediately released — and Shorewood Police are investigating. There have been some rough waters in the wake of recent storms, and deputy police chief Kevin Carini says swimmers should know the water conditions and possible undercurrents.
