Bail was set at $500 recognizance bond for a 29- year- old Manitowoc woman charged with substantial battery following a physical altercation with another Manitowoc female over the weekend. Corinthia Downs is accused of causing injury to Emily Tobin after an argument over a man. Officers responded about 3:30 yesterday afternoon to a residence in the 5300 block of Calumet Avenue for the report of a physical fight where a firearm was discharged. Tobin said told police that she and Downs’ boyfriend had sex and suspected that she found out about the affair and came to confront her about it. Downs struck Tobin numerous times resulting in multiple injuries including a fractured orbital bone—significant bruising and lacerations to her face. Fearing for her and her children’s safety she went into her house and grabbed a 9 mm gun firing one shot into the air. Downs then fled the scene to a friend who was waiting in a car. She was not charged. Conditions of bail are that downs have no contact with Tobin or the residence and her initial appearance is scheduled for August 14th at 2:30.
