The three-billion dollar package of state incentives for Foxconn is up for a committee vote this (Monday) afternoon. The Assembly jobs’ panel has a three p-m meeting set to recommend the package to the full house. Democratic Representative Dana Wachs of Eau Claire, who announced his bid for governor last week, now says he’ll vote against the payments of tax dollars and relaxations of environmental laws to the Taiwanese giant for building its first U-S factory for smartphone and T-V screens in either Racine or Kenosha counties. Republican Governor Scott Walker says Foxconn will be the state’s greatest jobs generator, and his spokesman Tom Evenson says the environmental breaks are similar to those given to the Packers’ Lambeau Field and other large projects. Wachs and Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Andy Gronik are among who said they supported the Foxconn deal originally but now believe it’s not a good deal for taxpayers — and Wachs says the G-O-P is pushing it through too quickly.
