The Silver Alert program, a program which helps locate vulnerable people who have gone missing, has been in effect for about three years now, and Attorney Brad Schimel says that it is working wonders. Schimel stated, “”we’ve had nearly 200 people who meet the criteria of the program who have become the subject of a silver alert, 96% of them have been returned home safely.” Another statistic of note, the average time it takes to recover the lost person is 20 hours. In order for someone to be eligible for the program, the person has got to be 60 years of age or older, must be believed to have Alzheimer’s, dementia, or another permanent cognitive impairment that poses a threat to their health and safety, and then there is a reasonable belief that their disappearance is due to their impaired cognitive condition, according to Schimel.
