The Milwaukee Brewers lose their second straight game at Cincinnati, 9-3 Tuesday night. The Crew remains three and a half games back for the division lead, but it dropped another half game in the Wild Card standings and is now two and a half back for the final N-L playoff spot. The Reds scored five runs in the seventh inning to pull away as former Brewer Scooter Gennett homered, doubled, and drove in three runs while Cincinnati outhit the Crew 11-5. Rookie Robert Stephenson got the win and Raisel Iglesias earned his 25th save as Zach Davies lost only his second road game of the year and fell to 16-8, still tied with Arizona’s Zack Greinke and the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw for the most wins in the Majors. Travis Shaw homered for the Brewers, who will try to salvage a win this (Wednesday) afternoon in the finale of their series at Great American Ball Park.
The Brewers have called up base running specialist Quintin Berry from Triple “A” Colorado Springs, and he was a pinch runner in Tuesday night’s loss at Cincinnati. The 32-year-old center fielder could play some defense but manager Craig Counsell says Berry is primarily with the Crew to be a base runner — a small role that Counsell hopes will produce impact in a couple of games down the stretch. Berry has stolen 27 bases in 28 chances during parts of four Major League seasons — and he has 389 steals in the minors. He started the year with Minnesota but he was cut in early May — and he then went home to San Diego before the Brewers signed him to a minor league deal in July. At Colorado Springs, Berry went 12 for 42 at the plate, stole two bases, and homered twice.
