A Madison man claims that his wife asked him to kill her, so he shot her before blowing up his house with her body inside. That’s according to a “probable cause affidavit” from investigators in the case of 59-year-old Steven Pirus. A judge set bond at one-million dollars during a court hearing Tuesday, and Dane County prosecutors are expected to file charges of homicide, arson, and reckless endangerment for the house explosion last week where Pirus’ wife Lee Anne was found dead. According to investigators, Pirus opened a natural gas line at a basement dryer, and tampered with a water heater’s pilot light to blow up the building and try and hide the killing.
