August’s unemployment rate rose slightly in Manitowoc. Numbers released this afternoon by the State Department of Workforce Development show the city’s jobless rate at four percent. That’s up from three-point-nine percent in July but down from four-point-seven percent last August. Manitowoc County’s unemployment rate of three-point-six percent remains the same from July and down significantly from four-point-three percent in August 2016. Preliminary August 2017 rates decreased in the state’s 32 largest municipalities and in 71 of 72 counties compared to last year. Last week’s Business of Labor statistics monthly estimates show a preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of three-point-four percent and the state’s labor force participation rate of sixty-eight-point-eight percent continues to outpace the national rate of sixty-two-point nine percent.
