On a 14 to 10 vote the Manitowoc County Board of Supervisors last night passed an amended “pay raise” resolution that would give supervisors about an eleven-and-a half percent bump in pay. The original resolution brought forth by County Board Chair Jim Brey called for a pay raise of 21-point-six-seven percent. Brey said supervisors haven’t received a pay raise since 2009 and this amount would catch them up to pay comparable to other’s around the state. The County Board Chair also disagrees with County Board Executive Bob Ziegelbauer who called the raise unnecessary for several reasons including attending just two to three meetings per month. Brey says the job goes beyond that including taking a week’s vacation to volunteer at the County Fair. Ziegelbauer has six days to veto it which he says he’ll take time to think about. A two thirds majority supervisory vote is required to override any veto.
