Some of Governor Scott Walker’s 99 state budget shows the considerable power he used with his line item veto authority. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel examined the two year, 76-billion dollar dollar package — and it found that Walker rejected an effort by his fellow G-O-P legislators to avoid a non partisan financial audit of the U-W System. Walker struck the word “not” from the section which read that the Legislative Audit Bureau shall not examine the U-W’s finances. Also, Walker used his ability to strike words to form new sentences that gave him more authority to move funds to different items within the D-O-T. Lawmakers could override the Walker vetoes, but no governor has had any veto overturned since 1985.
