Manitowoc Man Charged After “Accidentally” Firing AK-47 in Apartment

A 35- year- old Manitowoc man charged with possession of a firearm as a felon made his initial appearance yesterday. Christopher L. Ramirez was taken into custody last Tuesday night for “accidentally” discharging an AK-47 in his apartment. Police responded to a two -story apartment complex in the 1100 block of South 13^th Street for a report of a firearms discharge.  The resident of the lower unit said he was outside raking when he heard a “pop”. His son then ran outside telling his father that the “ceiling had exploded.” A police investigation revealed that Ramirez had accidentally discharged the weapon through the floor of his room.  Ramirez remains in the county jail in lieu of $500 cash bail and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday afternoon at 1:30.
