In a bipartisan effort, the Affordable Care Act’s Health Insurance Tax was delayed for 2017, however it is slated to return on January 1st. Global management consulting firm Oliver Wyman estimates that this return will cost Wisconsinites $944 million in higher health insurance premiums in 2018 alone. In an attempt to elevate this, Senator Ron Johnson and 10 co-sponsors introduced the Healthcare Tax Relief Act last week to extend the delay of the health insurance tax for 2018. Also, Americans for Tax Reform has launched a “Stop Obamacare Taxes Tour,” which will be headed to Wisconsin later this month.
