A pedestrian killed by a car in Stoughton was identified today (Tuesday) as the commander of that city’s Veterans of Foreign Wars post. Sixty-nine-year-old Patrick Nowlin died at a hospital following the mishap, which occurred around 6:50 Monday night. Police say a 47-year-old Madison man drove the car that struck Nowlin — and that driver stayed on the scene while police investigated. Officers say Nowlin was in a crosswalk when he was hit. He was the commander of Stoughton’s V-F-W post since 2009 — and the Wisconsin State Journal says he won a 40-million dollar Powerball jackpot in 2007, part of which he used to refurbish the V-F-W building.
