Manitowoc police made a traffic stop and a resulting ‘weapons’ arrest on the city’s southside yesterday afternoon. Captain Craig Jansen said one of his officers on patrol alertly noticed an improperly-registered car, containing 4-occupants, drive past him near S. 19th and Madison Streets..about 3:00 o’clock. When the policeman caught up to the suspect vehicle, the driver had pulled over and made it ‘look like’ all 4 persons were going to enter a residence there. The officer drove-past to give the appearance he was leaving the area..but quickly doubled-back on a different route. Sure enough, the car passed him as he waited in the same vicinity and the vehicle pulled over. The driver then ran away..but with a ‘host’ of police officers swarming the area, was eventually located near S. 13th & Manila Streets. Police found 2-loaded semi-automatic pistols in the unlocked glove compartment of the car..that were taken from a family member without their knowledge. The 17-year old ‘driver’ was booked & held in the Mnitowoc County Jail for obstructing an officer, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon by someone under 18, prowling, 4-counts of misdemeanor bail-jumping, 2-counts ‘felony’ bail jumping and many traffic citations. His 14-year old front-seat passenger was incarcerated at the Sheboygan County Juvenile Detention Center for..carrying a concealed weapon & an underage person possessing a dangerous weapon. Captain Jansen says two, 16-year olds in the car were released to family members, ‘without’ criminal charges.
