Wisconsin’s largest cable T-V carrier is negotiating again on a new contract to carry 23 Viacom channels — including Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, M-T-V, and Spike. Sunday was the deadline for Viacom to reach a new deal with Charter Communications to pay transmission fees and get channel allotments for its 23 channels. No agreement was reahed, but Deadline Dot Com says the two sides agreed to a short term extension to try to work out a new contract. As with other cable disputes, Viacom has told Charter’s Spectrum viewers they would lose their programming unless they call Spectrum and tell them to keep it. Carriers in those disputes claim they need more, mainly to cover rising costs for network programs.
