Wisconsin Assembly Democrats want prescription drug makers to be more open about what they charge and why. Representative Deb Kolste of Janesville is sponsoring a bill to give advance notice to state officials before they raise the price of any drug by at least 25-percent. Kolste also wants to make pharmacy benefit managers register with the state insurance commissioner, saying those managers are the “least regulated” in the industry. And Madison Assembly Democrat Lisa Subeck proposed a bill to stop insurers from abruptly cutting off insurance coverage for medications. Subeck tells Wisconsin Public Radio she had to pay hundreds of dollars more for migraine headache and asthma medicines — but Nicholas McGee of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers’ group says the bills would only create more bureaucracy for them and would not stop drug makers from raising prices.
