In baseball, Milwaukee’s Craig Counsell has received an unofficial Manager of the Year honor from the Sporting News. The online publication surveyed Major League skippers before naming Counsell on Tuesday as its top National League manager with Cleveland’s Terry Francona getting the American League honor. Counsell led the rebuilding Brewers to a surprising 86-76 record this season, and they were not eliminated from playoff contention until the second to last day of the regular season. The 47-year-old Counsell has been the Brewers’ skipper since late April of 2015 when Ron Roenicke was let go. There’s been talk that Counsell could win the official N-L manager’s title, which will be announced by the Baseball Writers Association after the World Series.
