An anonymous donor offered $1.25 million to keep Sturgeon Bay’s Granary building standing. The granary is in bad shape, and was ordered to be torn down by the Fire Department in the city due to structural and health concerns. The Sturgeon Bay Historical Society has been trying to raise enough funds to fix the issues with the building, which once was the center of all commerce in the agricultural community. Even with the generous donation, it may not be enough to save it. The granary was added to the state’s historic registry in August, and could be added to the national registry within the next few weeks.
