Lead testing completed by Manitowoc Public Utilities has found lead levels n some homes are above the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s action limit. Two Rivers tested their water and got a similar result.CEO and General Manager Nilaksh Kothari clarified that the “most important thing is lead is not in our source water or in the treated water that is pumped into the city of Manitowoc.” The lead is actually from the lead service lines that are on the homeowners property. In order to pass the test, no more than 10% of the samples taken can exceed 15 parts per billion. The testing in Two Rivers showed that 16.7% of the samples tested exceeded 15 PPB, including three that exceeded 45 PPB. The city has taken action to correct the problem. In Manitowoc, there will be two educational seminars to educate the public. The first will be at the Manitowoc Public Library from 4:30 to 6:30 PM on November 6th and the second will be on November 8th at City Hall from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
