A Marshfield man who got locked in a store’s beer cooler reportedly violated a previous probation by drinking some of the brew that surrounded him. Police say 38-year-old Jeremy Van Ert was supposed to stay sober as a condition of his last probation — but as long he was stuck in the cooler, he told police he might as well stay and drink. Officials say he walked into the downtown Marshfield Kwik Trip late Tuesday night to buy beer, and a glass cooler door locked behind him. Police said he could have knocked on the glass and be let out, but that didn’t happen until a customer saw him in the cooler around 5:50 Wednesday morning. Van Ert was cited for retail theft.
