Gale force winds precede a major snow storm in far northern Wisconsin. All four lanes of Highway Two in Ashland were closed early this (Friday) morning as waves from nearby Chequamegon (shuh wah’muh gn) Bay crashed across the highway. The State Patrol said Highway Two was closed for a one mile stretch from Highway 13 to the western edge of Ashland’s downtown. The National Weather Service said the flooding began around 4:45 A-M, and Highway Two was still shut down by late morning. Forecasters predicted two to eleven inches of snow and strong winds through late Saturday morning for places close to Lake Superior. About one inch of snow, mixed with rain, is expected tomorrow in much of north central Wisconsin.
