A Milwaukee man accused of plotting a mass shooting at a Masonic temple will stay in jail until a trial begins, possibly in February. Federal Magistrate Judge David Jones has rejected a defense request to set a bond for 25-year-old Samy Hamzeh. He’s been jailed since January of 2016, for allegedly buying a silencer and two machine guns from F-B-I agents who were undercover. According to prosecutors, months of talks with those federal agents turned up a purported plan by Hamzeh to “defend Islam” and kill at least 30 people. His attorneys say the informants controlled the talk about the violence — and Hamzeh appears to have a solid case that he was entrapped.
