A bill making it a felony to produce or sell heroin boosting drugs comes up for a vote today (Tuesday) in the Wisconsin Senate. The measure adds fentanyl analogs to the opiate category of controlled substances, making it easier for prosecutors to charge producers of the analogs — which lengthen the effects of heroin, resulting in more overdoses. The Senate expects to add more types of analogs to a bill passed by the Assembly in June. Also today (Tuesday), the Senate is expected to give final legislative approval to letting trained people in businesses and service groups give epinephrine (ep’ih neff’rin) to save people with severe allergic reactions. It’s called “Dillon’s Law,” in honor of 18-year-old Dillon Mueller of Mishicot, who died after getting a reaction from a bee sting — and his father says Dillon’s life could have been saved if more people were to use EpiPens.
