Brown County is working on a program, which would make UW Extension workers a simple phone call away. Brown County Executive, Troy Streckenbach stated, “There’s an increase in the demand, an interest in local farming, more urban-farming.” The county is attempting to help those just starting out by creating a training program so they can better understand how to grow food in their backyard, and get a proper license. Streckenbach estimates the manpower to answer questions will add up to around $8,000. He says the money is already in the proposed 2018 budget, which will be voted on at the county board meeting today.
